The Pan Celtic Race 2019

The Pan Celtic Race is a 1440 mile, 86,371 ft elevation, self-supported cycling adventure journeying through the Celtic Nations of Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The race starts in Inverness on the 7th July 2019 and will take 7-14 days with two ferry crossings, finishing in Llandudno. Whether you choose to race it or not us very much up to you with some preferring to stop at one of the distilleries along the route or a refreshing pint of Guinness from one of the country pubs you'll pass in Ireland.

"With an eye on the unconventional and discovery, the purpose of the Pan Celtic Race is to give each participant an opportunity to undertake an adventure and journey, both in a physical and spiritual sense. It gives the opportunity to escape the distractions of modern living which are so intrinsically woven in the fabric of our consciousness."

The Highlands stage will take in some of the remotest roads on the British Isles. Coastal roads, desolate moorlands, wild forests and mountain peaks draw the rider towards the first checkpoint at Ullapool, where they will find “hot food, shelter and a firm handshake.” they then head through Lock Lomond and onwards through Galloway Forest National Park to the port in Cairn Ryan where riders will take mandatory rest. Onto Ireland from Belfast, the route heads North, around Torrs Head and past the Giants Causeway. Beyond the Wicklow Mountains, riders will find the second checkpoint and after heading to the East Coast riders will take a ferry to Rosslare to Fishguard in Wales. The route heads North-East towards the Desert of Wales and up the Elan Valley and the Devils Staircase to the Snowdonia National Park and up Pen Llech, which is said to be the steepest road in the UK with a 36.63% maximum gradient to the finish in Llandundo.

It's appears to be a truly magnificent route that you may find take twice as long as it perhaps should because of stopping to take in the view every few miles.
